Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:
- Brooklyn's free Climate School: the future of “Made in New York” fashion is in the making — right now. "Céline Semaan, founder of nonprofit Slow Factory Foundation, stands in the wind in a hard hat and neon vest with a crew before wheeling a select few journalists through the damp construction site," WWD stated. The school will include classrooms for the nonprofit’s open-access “Open Edu” program prioritizing climate justice, a plant-based leather lab dubbed Slow Factory Labs and a rare books or “Slow Reads” library, among other things. - Monday night's storm sent a large tree crashing into a Bay Ridge brownstone. The large tree caused significant damage to the roof, and one of the branches broke the fence in the front yard. While the tree caused significant damage to the house, nobody was hurt in the incident. (CBS New York)
- Brooklyn's COVID-19 rates are fairly low as two major coronavirus restrictions were lifted on Monday. As mask mandates in indoor venues and city schools are being lifted, official guidance still recommends wearing masks in public settings. Brooklyn's 7-day case rate is slightly lower than the city-wide rates. (Brooklyn Paper)
