Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:

  1. Cast your vote on funding for mental health stemming from the coronavirus pandemic; you have until Jan. 24 to vote for a project that will be funded in your community. Make sure your voice is heard in this participatory budgeting process. (NewsKudos.com)
  2. This week the state legislature rejected two sets of opposing electoral maps for New York State; they were supposed to present one map with both Democrats and Republican's members in agreement. Sunset Park is in the midst of the dispute; maps have been returned to the politicians to produce one agreed-upon set. The courts will take over the process if agreement cannot be made on one electoral map. (Brooklyn Reader)
  3. Education department officials announced a change in the middle school application process this year: parents of twins or children close in age. The change applies to students who will start middle school in the 2022-23 school year. The new policy makes it easier for siblings to attend the same school. (Chalkbeat New York)
