Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:
- If you have a child in a New York City public school, you will receive $375 per child in food benefits, regardless of their household income! This is the third payout of food benefits for public school families since 2020 when the pandemic started. Also, free meals will be provided at select public schools this summer for anyone under 18 starting June 28. (Patch)
- Mayor Eric Adams is considering a zoning plan for a rapidly-changing section of northern Crown Heights to slow down "rampant gentrification." The focus is on the the Atlantic Avenue corridor, though the Mayor did not offer specifics. Local leaders want to steer "development toward a northern section, known as MCROWN, to spur affordable housing and job growth." (Patch)
- The Diocese of Brooklyn is devastated over the theft of a solid gold tabernacle worth about $2 million from St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Sixth Avenue and Park Place in Park Slope. They described the tabernacle as "irreplaceable due to its historical and artistic value." Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-8477. (Patch)
