1. Get onboard! Governors Island daily, year-round ferry service from Brooklyn commences Jan. 24. There will be a stop between Sunset Park’s Brooklyn Army Terminal and Red Hook to accommodate the recreational island’s winter hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. When the new service launches, the Southern Brooklyn line will make stops at Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Governors Island, Red Hook, Atlantic Ave/Brooklyn Bridge Park, Wall Street/Pier 11, Dumbo and Corlears Hook. 2. Currently it takes approximately two hours to get to Queens from southern Brooklyn. No more; the Interborough Express, a proposed train line from southern Brooklyn to Queens using 14 miles of repurposed freight rail line, will shorten your commute. "Interborough Express will connect New Yorkers with 17, count them, you heard it here first, 17 subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road," Gov. Kathy Hochul said. "We project there will be up to 88,000 riders every day, and end to end would take about 40 minutes." (WABC-TV)
3. Cryptocurrency — gold mine or folly, however you may feel about it, Mayor Eric Adams announced that his first paycheck will be converted into Bitcoin and Ethereum, fulfilling the pledge he made prior to his election. “New York is the center of the world, and we want it to be the center of cryptocurrency and other financial innovations,” Adams said in a statement Thursday.
