Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:
- The search has begun for 12-year-old Kayla Hill who went missing on Wednesday. Hill, who witnessed her mother fatally shot by her father two years ago, apparently told friends that she was planning to take a bus from Port Authority to Vancouver, Washington, where she once lived with her family. She has been living with her maternal grandmother in Bay Ridge after the loss of her parents in 2019. (WPIX 11 New York)
- Former Mayor Bill de Blasio announced he is not running for public office, saying Tuesday he would sit out a congressional run in his local Brooklyn district. “Back in January, I made a decision to focus on advocating for policies that would continue to drive down income inequality in New York,” de Blasio tweeted. “I’m going to stick with that decision — it was the right one then and it remains so.” (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
- Sen. Diane Savino served southern Brooklyn and Staten Island in Albany for 18 years. She will not seek re-election, the politico confirmed to Brooklyn Paper on Wednesday. Savino drafted over 150 pieces of legislation in her nearly two decades in the senate. She is supporting her former staffer, Democrat Jessica Sarella-Spanton, who has already announced a run for the open seat against Democratic former Councilmember David Yassky. (Brooklyn Paper)
