Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:
- The race for the newly drawn 10th congressional district, which includes Park Slope, Red Hook and Sunset Park, is getting crowded. City Council Member Carlina Rivera has just joined the pack running for Congress. Rivera said, “I am someone who wants to make New York a city everyone can see themselves in.” No doubt, one of the most watched primaries in New York City will be the 10th congressional district. (Gotham Gazette)
- On Thursday, Mayor Eric Adams announced starting June 13, children ages 2 through 4 no longer are required to wear masks in public schools and day cares. This is the last group of youngsters that were mandated to wear masks indoors even though older students and their siblings were able to go mask-free. Officials said, masks are still "strongly recommended" for New Yorkers of all ages indoors. (Patch)
- A new six-story development in Park Slope, named the Timber House, was built using sustainable materials that were all precut and assembled on site. This is the first condominium made of precut timber. Using sustainable materials has been common in Europe for over 20 years. (Patch)
