- Sunset Park area adoptable pets: meet Colin Furth and more. "Colin Furth is a 3-year-old male who had a rough life outside until we rescued him. He very friendly, playful, independent, couch potato, smart, brave, quiet, dignified and protective," wrote shelter staff. Maybe you would consider fostering a pet. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year-round, many shelters offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed. (Sunset Park Patch)

- A four-alarm fire erupted at a Boerum Hill gym Monday morning, hurting two people. The fire broke out at about 10:30 a.m. at a building on the corner of Boerum Place and Pacific Street, and within 15 minutes prompted a second, and then third alarm, according to the FDNY Twitter account. After an hour of battling the blaze, at least one firefighter was hurt, fire officials said, noting that at least one civilian was injured in the blaze as well. The building, which until last year was a New York Sports Club, recently reopened as a UFC FIT gym. (Patch)
