- Undoubtedly, the Asian American community has been shaken by attacks. Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced a plan to send mental health workers and police into the subway to remove the homeless people who shelter there, but is that enough?Reignited opposition to planned homeless shelters in the City's three Chinatowns - in Manhattan; Flushing, Queens; and Sunset Park, Brooklyn is a direct result of the current violence against Asian Americans. - On Feb. 21, a man walked into an unlocked Sunset Park, Brooklyn home before making his way through the house and disturbing possessions, police said Saturday. Police said the house, located near 40th Street and 6th Avenue, was unlocked, and the suspect walked into the front door before walking through the home and ransacking through closets. - A good Samaritan saved a 52-year-old man who fell on the tracks at the Fourth Avenue/Ninth Street subway station on Wednesday. The man was able to roll the victim of the fall out of harms way and narrowly avoided a train himself when he jumped back onto the platform. The injured man was treated for injuries to his hands and legs. (Brooklyn Patch)
- Friday was sentencing day for Joseph Desmond, the man who killed an off-duty firefighter during a road rage incident in December 2018. Desmond was convicted of murder of 33-year-old Faizal Coto after the two men got into a minor accident near the Verrazzano Bridge. They both pulled over to the side of the road where Desmond struck Coto with a heavy object before fleeing. (ABC7 New York)
