  1. Check out five local homes on the market.   2. Another firefighting hero has died from 9/11 related cancer. "Retired FDNY Captain Michael J. Lyons, was cited for many acts of heroism during his 20-year career, including taking part in the rescue of an office worker from the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, died Tuesday of 9/11-related cancer, the FDNY has confirmed. He was 53," wrote Newsday. Lyons served as a firefighter with Engine 228 in Sunset Park as well as Borough Park, Midwood and Harlem. We humbly thank you for your service, sir. (Subscription: Newsday)
  3. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the completion of a $133 million affordable and supportive housing development in Coney Island. Known as Raven Hall, the new development features 216 affordable apartments and ground floor retail space. Raven Hall is part of Hochul's plans to make housing more affordable, equitable, and stable.   4. According to Preeta Sinha, founder of One Green Planet, she is optimistic for Mayor Eric "Adams’ record of animal rights advocacy, despite the occasional controversy. However, Sinha was positive on Eric Adam's push for sustainability with the fashion industry, his move toward less meat in public school lunches by promoting 'Meatless Monday' and 'Vegan Fridays' and environmental promises making New York City into a 'wind power hub' and 'promoting a green energy economy,'” Sinha wrote.   5. There was a slight rise in coronavirus cases last week; Brooklyn reported the second-highest transmission rate of the new omicron variant out of all the boroughs over the last seven days. "Brooklyn Paper reported, '18 city zip codes report 99 percent of their populations are fully vaccinated with the only Brooklyn neighborhood in that category being the 11220 zip code in Sunset Park.'"
