Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:
- Dozens of locals rallied at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Bay Ridge to demand that the Kings County health care institution be saved. The federal Department of Veterans Affairs recently released a report that illustrated plans to close both the Manhattan and Brooklyn VA facilities and consolidate their services into other facilities. Veterans, elected officials, and other advocates argue that the plan would make it unnecessarily more difficult for veterans to access vital health care. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Looking to get your Irish on this St. Patrick’s Day? Go no further than Irish Haven in Sunset Park; listed as one of the 15 best Irish bars in NYC by Thrillist! "Founded in 1964, the bar keeps it simple with a beer and shots-centric beverage program and old-school wood paneled interior. Keep yourself entertained while sipping on $5 pints of Guinness with live music performances, karaoke, pool, beer pong tournaments, and an annual “prom” dance. Also, Irish Haven was famously the setting for scenes in Martin Scorsese’s film, "The Departed," with a framed photograph of Scorsese behind the bar to commemorate the occasion." (Thrillist)
