Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:
- The Sims Municipal Recycling Facility is the largest recycling processing plant in the country and located in the heart of Sunset Park. See an up-close interview at the processing plant with NBC New York reporter, Lauren Scala. (NBC New York)
- See six properties for sale in our real-estate roundup; we're bringing you some of the newest and most interesting houses to hit the market in and around Sunset Park. Check out the open houses as well! (Sunset Park Patch)
- Permanent outside dining was approved by City Council not long ago; but now it has hit a snag with Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Frank Nervo. Nervo is siding with residents saying that a fuller environmental study needs to be conducted before it becomes permanent. Outside dining was a savior for restaurants during the pandemic, but, according to residents, has become a rat magnet as well as creating noise and clogging sidewalks. (Patch)
- Police are looking for a man who is approximately 6 feet tall, weighs 155 pounds and has a slim build. "He was last seen wearing a dark colored jacket, a yellow hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants," police said. He allegedly sexually attacked a 23-year-old woman at the Prospect Lefferts Gardens station, then fled when another subway rider walked by. Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). (Patch)

Where should you invest as a Sunset Park resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there’s a new investment Sunset Park residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.
This may surprise you, but it’s fine art.
Growing your nest egg with art isn’t new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.
Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.
Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.
The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
