Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:

  1. The NYPD is searching for a man who slashed another man on a Brooklyn subway train. A 39-year-old Asian man was riding a southbound F train when he engaged in a verbal dispute with the suspect. The 39-year-old victim was slashed in the chest and the back of his neck after racist language was exchanged. (AMNY)
  2. In a statement, New York Attorney General Letitia James said she wanted to remind New Yorkers that even well-known cryptocurrencies can crash and wipe away investments in seconds. Her statement came after billions of dollars were lost in May when the crypto market took a steep dive. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  3. The race to represent the redrawn district that includes much of Park Slope and Sunset Park is getting crowded. Carlina Rivera, a progressive Lower East Side City Council member, just announced she's joining Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-Westchester/Rockland), former Mayor Bill de Blasio, and downtown Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou in the race to represent the 10th Congressional District. (BKLYNER)
  4. Brooklyn Magazine has identified 10 things to do this weekend that include headliners like Justin Bieber, New York City Gay Men’s Chorus at the Brooklyn Museum and so much more. (Brooklyn Magazine)

From my notebook:

  • Sunset Park 5th Avenue BID: "NYC 311 can work, it’s not magic for sure. But for things like broken street signs dangling from one bolt and hanging above the sidewalk, it only took a couple days to get a fix. Use the phone app if you can — you’ll save time." (Sunset Park 5th Avenue BID via Facebook)
  • Sunset Park BID: "Repost from @amphs_nyc • Join @amphs_nyc and @targetmargin for a free storytelling project for Sunset Parkers to explore their personal history in the neighborhood." (Sunset Park BID via Instagram)
  • Fifth Avenue Committee: "Currently there is high community spread of COVID-19. Wear a mask in all indoor public settings and crowded outdoor spaces. Learn more: on.nyc.gov/covidalert" (Fifth Avenue Committee via Facebook)
