Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:

  1. What restaurants were listed in the Eater NY this week? Well, Sunset Park's very own Tacos Matamoros, 4508 Fifth Ave., near 45th Street, was on the list! Eater NY reporter Emma Orlow said, "There are two sizes of tacos to behold here, both come served in a cone-like shape. If I’m being honest, two large al pastor tacos (each $6) and one large carnitas was more than I could handle with chips and guac also on the table. But these were worth the trip from its double-layer, chewy flour tortillas and the heaping portion of meat." (Eater NY)
  2. There is a new parks commissioner under Mayor Eric Adams' administration, Susan Donoghue. Donoghue has been with the parks commission since 2014 in a leadership position. "I'm honored to be taking a citywide leadership role in caring the New York City's most essential resource, its parks and open spaces," said Donoghue. (The Brooklyn Eagle)
  3. Police are investigating at least two incidents involving antisemitic attacks in Brooklyn over the weekend. On Friday night, a Hasidic Jewish man was punched in the face while walking down the street in Bed-Stuy, and was treated at the scene for minor injuries. On Sunday morning, multiple yeshiva school buses were spray painted with swastika graffiti in Williamsburg. The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating these crimes that have caused great concern within the Jewish community. (CBS New York)
  4. Monday, NYC firefighters and municipal workers rallied at the Brooklyn Bridge and City Hall to protest a vaccine mandate that could leave them without jobs. Up until this point, most city workers have had the choice to get vaccinated or get tested weekly but after the Friday deadline the testing option will be eliminated. (FOX 5)
