Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:

  1. The Office of the New York State Attorney General Leticia James and the Brooklyn Community Foundation announced that 10 community-based organizations will be receiving $2.2 million in grants from our new Wellness and Recovery Fund for substance treatment programs, harm reduction services, and policy change. (New York State Attorney General)
  2. The vision of the MTA's Interborough Express (IBX) from Brooklyn to Queens could look more like the London Overground in the U.K., that is if officials decide to go with the rail option, rather than buses or trolleys. The IBX would run on existing freight rail right of way from the Bay Ridge-Sunset Park waterfront through central and eastern Brooklyn, and up to Jackson Heights, Queens — a 40-minute journey serving up to 88,000 weekday riders in largely working-class neighborhoods of color. (AMNY)
  3. The Statsraad Lehmkuhl, Norway's historic three-masted tall ship, sailed into the Brooklyn Marina at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday morning. Statsraad Lehmkuhl is a three-masted barque rigged sail training vessel, it is called by many “the most beautiful ship in the world.” This is the fifth time the Statsraad Lehmkuhl is visiting New York, beginning with two visits in the 1950s. Notably, the Statsraad Lehmkuhl was the first ship to come into New York Harbor after 9/11. (Subscription: Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  4. Firefighters responded to a fire in a Red Hook warehouse early on Thursday morning at 98 Van Dyke St. The building had stored masonry and construction equipment on site sight since the 1980s, and a few potbelly pigs were rescued from the building. The fire was brought under control by 2:59 a.m., and first responders were seen trying to corral the animals. (AMNY)
