Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:

  1. See five properties in and around Sunset Park. "Here's a sampling of the latest batch of new homes to go up for sale in the Sunset Park area — such as one in the Brooklyn area with 1 bed and 1 bath for $359,000, and another in the Brooklyn area with 7 beds and 4 baths for $1.8 million." (Sunset Park Patch)
  2. More businesses are moving to Sunset Park to the warehouse building dubbed Liberty Bklyn. Wig Maker Ghair plans to move into the partial fifth-floor space in April, according to landlords Madison Capital and Salmar Properties. Asking rent was $23 per square foot in the 10.5-year lease. According to Pinnacle Realty’s David Junik, the firm was interested in the Sunset Park complex because of how the space can be equipped for a variety of different uses such as warehousing, shipping, offices and retail all in one building. (Commercial Observer)
  3. There is an appeal to finish construction: Brooklyn Community Board 7 will hold a public hearing (and Landmark/Land Use Committee meeting via Zoom) on a request for extension of time to complete construction of a nine-story building at Second Avenue and 49th Street in Sunset Park. The new building would contain a transient hotel and ambulatory diagnostic treatment health care facility, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  4. News 12 reported that New York’s legislature approved new congressional district maps Wednesday that will expand Democrats’ power for years to come in a state where the party already holds a dominating advantage. The redrawn maps would ensure that Democrats make up a strong majority of registered voters in 22 of the 26 congressional districts the state will have in 2023, stated News 12. The Legislature faces pressure to quickly pass maps, with the state’s election primaries just months away in June. “We’ve come up with fair maps that the state can be proud of,” Deputy Senate Majority Leader Mike Gianaris, a Democrat of Queens, said. (News 12 Connecticut)
