How Would You Change Waterfront Transit in Sunset Park? Weigh in at Nov. 10 Meeting

New York City Hall's development arm will host a transit-focused meeting in Sunset Park on Nov. 10, at the offices of UPROSE.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — The city's Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will lead a Nov. 10 neighborhood meeting for the sole purpose of letting Sunset Park community members weigh in on their transportation priorities.

The gathering will take place at 6 p.m. at the office of community activist group UPROSE, located at 166A 22nd St.

According to the EDC, the meeting will help inform an in-the-works study on transportation in Sunset Park (called the "Sunset Park Transportation Study").

An EDC spokesperson described the effort as "a planning-level study undertaken by NYCEDC, in partnership with other City agencies, that will identify and prioritize necessary, feasible improvements to create an integrated transportation network in the Sunset Park Waterfront District."

EDC staffers will lead a presentation at the Nov. 10 meeting, after which community members will provide thoughts on the neighborhood's transit needs.

Ryan Chavez, infrastructure coordinator for UPROSE, said the scope of the study extends from Third Avenue to the waterfront. He said the EDC is exploring a variety of transit issues, including signage, pedestrian safety and truck routes.

Chavez said UPROSE leadership sees the new Sunset Park study as "connected to a lot of other EDC initiatives" — including plans for the Brooklyn Army Terminal and the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, as well as the proposed Brooklyn Queens Connector streetcar, which saw some of its potential routes revealed on Tuesday.

The Sunset Park Transportation Study will be completed and released by December 2017, according to the EDC.
