SYOSSET, NY — Four vehicles were destroyed when a fire broke out near the Syosset Train Station. The blaze broke out around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday outside Kiddie Academy on Ira Road, witnesses and fire officials told Patch. No one was hurt.

High winds fanned flames that destroyed three cars and a van, and damaged six other cars, officials said. Syosset firefighters battled the blaze and brought it under control in about 20 minutes.

Twitter user @airtrain11, who snapped photos and video of the blaze, said the fire started suddenly in a van parked in the nearby Kiddie Academy parking lot. Flames quickly spread to other cars, but did not reach cars in the Long Island Rail Road parking lot.

"Smoke was very black and covered all houses behind Verizon building," @airtrain11 told Patch in a direct message.

Firefighters were still putting out the blaze around noon, officials said. Six more vehicles were damaged by heavy flames.

The MTA told Patch the inferno happened on Town of Oyster Bay property and that the Syosset Fire Department was sent to the scene. Nassau County police said they were not called for any fires.

The cause of the blaze wasn't immediately known.

A representative for Kiddie Academy confirmed there was a fire outside the pre-school. No one was hurt and no kids had to be sent home, she said. The pre-school could not confirm the blaze began in its parking lot and declined to comment further.
