Glen Cove Officials Welcome Cove Animal Rescue to City Hall
The new organization plans to open March 1.

Cove Animal Rescue, the new organization named by Glen Cove officials to operate the Shore Road animal shelter, was recently welcomed by Mayor Reginald Spinello and Deputy Mayor Barbara Peebles at City Hall Saturday, Feb. 14.
City officials greeted the group’s board members, new employees, and volunteers in anticipation of their March 1st opening. The animal shelter will be located at 40 Shore Road in Glen Cove.
“I am confident that Cove Animal Rescue will operate an animal shelter that the City of Glen Cove will be proud of,“ Peebles said. “Cove Animal Rescue is made up of truly talented people united in their dedication to animal care and their enthusiasm for placing the animals in forever homes.”

Animal Lovers League, which had operated the Shore Road shelter for 20 years, announced on its Facebook page that it had found a new location for its outreach programs. The organization has not yet indicated where it will relocate, though stated that the site is not in Glen Cove.
Back in December, Glen Cove officials said it would terminate ALL’s licence after the city had received “concerns about the shelter animals’ safety raised by a growing number of community members.”

The Cove Animal Rescue organization says it aims to engage in adoption outreach and events and provide enhanced services to benefit the animals and the community. The organization also plans to expand the facility, with upgrades and improved operations.
City officials say they look forward to working with the new organization.
