Jericho Students Named Intel Semifinalists
High school seniors among only 300 nationwide to receive honor.

Three Jericho High School students are among 43 Long Island high school seniors named semifinalists in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search.
Ien Li, 17, Crystal Zheng, 17, and Steve D. Zheng, got the news on Wednesday about being in an elite pool of 300 students nationwide to be selected as semifinalists.
From this pool, 40 finalists are then invited to Washington, D.C,. in March to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists, and compete for three top awards of $150,000 each.

Li’s project is entitled “Statistical Modeling of Major Depression: Bridging the Gap between Brain and Behavior.” Crystal Zheng’s is “BDNF VAL66MET Induces Endocytosis-Dependent Dendritic Spine Collapse via proNGF-like Collapse Mechanism.” Zhong’s is “Describing Images: The Effect of Modern Communication on Personal Lexicon.” Steve D. Zheng’s is “Synthesis of a Novel MOF for CO2 Separation in Carbon Capture and Storage.”
