Man Accused Of Attempted Burglary, Violation Of Nassau Mask Law: NCPD

Police said a Jericho resident called them Saturday evening about a stranger in a black ski mask who tried her back door.

JERICHO, NY — A Manhattan resident faces charges in Nassau County over an incident Saturday that included attempted burglary and violation of the Mask Transparency Act, police said.

The first arrest under the controversial law was made Aug. 25 in Levittown when a Hicksville man was accused of carrying a knife and violating the new anti-mask law, police said.

According to detectives, on Saturday evening a woman on South Marginal Road contacted police after seeing a stranger wearing a black ski mask and glasses covering his face on her home surveillance camera.

The homeowner observed the man enter her rear yard and attempt to get in the residence through
the rear door. She confronted the stranger, who ran east before officers arrived, police said.

Officers were able to locate a suspect a short distance away. David Li, 27, of 74 W. 92nd St., was placed into custody without incident at 7:49 p.m., authorities said.He was found to be in possession of what appeared to be burglar tools, police said.

Li was charged with second-degree attempted burglary, a felony; possession of burglar tools, a misdemeanor; and violation of Nassau County Local Law 1-2024 Title 90-Mask Transparency Act, police said.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
