Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Parts Of Long Island

Heads up.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Long Island. It's in effect until 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

The warning is in effect for areas of northern Nassau County and western Suffolk County.

At 3:18 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Syosset, moving east at 60 mph. The storm may produce 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building, the NWS says.
