Teen Assaults Cop After Disturbance At Nassau Group Home: Police

The 17-year-old, who faces several charges, was taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said.

SYOSSET, NY — A teenager was charged with assault at a Mercy First group home in Syosset, police said.

The 17-year-old boy left the facility following a disturbance before officers arrived on Tuesday afternoon. He was located a short time later on Covent Road.

He became violent and combative; one officer was taken to a hospital for an injury to his right hand, police said.

The juvenile was placed into custody and brought to a hospital for evaluation. He is charged with second-degree assault, first-degree escape, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and second-degree criminal contempt.

He was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
