Town Of North Hempstead Closes Playgrounds

NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY The Town of North Hempstead announced Sunday that town playgrounds will temporarily close to avoid coronavirus spread.

Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the town board have issued the following updates for town recreational facilities:

  • All playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, and the town dog run are closed.
  • Bathrooms will remain open daily from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. (except for Manhasset Valley, Ridders Pond, and Merillon Ballfield which are closed.)
  • Starting Monday, March 23, the Town Dock parking lot will be closed to vehicles by 8 p.m.
  • Parks will remain open for passive use only.

“As we continue to navigate through this public health emergency, it absolutely critical that we heed the advice of medical professionals practicing social distancing,” said Supervisor Bosworth.

“At this point, outdoor exercise must be a solitary recreational activity as we must keep space between ourselves and others. The Center for Disease Control clearly states that staying at least six feet away from other people greatly lessens our chances of catching and spreading COVID-19.”
