The following is an "Open Letter to the Public" from Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Gregory Camp:
Recently, there have been several acts of violence occurring in or around the bars in our Village, the most recent resulting in a shooting. Although we believe these incidents are isolated, unrelated events, many of you have voiced your thoughts and concerns, so l would like to reassure the residents of this Village that your Police Department and Village Officials are committed to keeping you safe and are taking proactive measures to prevent future occurrences.
As Chief of Police, I am taking various steps focused on Village bars during the evening hours, as well as engaging my officers in other enforcement initiatives designed to prevent future problems. Further, l am working with other Village Department Heads and your elected officials to find ways to improve safety measures in our commercial district and to mitigate circumstances that could otherwise enable criminal activity. As always, any of your Village Officials are open to receiving input from the public.
