DWI Charge for Woman Who Hits Hydrant

A woman who hit a fire hydrant on South Broadway was charged with DWI, reports the Tarrytown Police Department.

On Feb. 15 at 8:52 p.m. a caller reported to police that a car had just struck a fire hydrant in front of 103 South Broadway. Officers on the scene requested towing for the car and that DPW Foreman Scott Weaver be notified.

By 9:06 p.m., police had arrested the driver Laura Gibson, 30, of Crompond, NY on charges of:

• Driving while intoxicated
• and unlawfully driving on or across sidewalk

Gibson allegedly refused on three separate attempts to submit to a chemical test to determine her blood alcohol count.

Tarrytown Lieutenant William Herguth said citizens have the right to refuse but that certainly has its impact on one's driver's license. He also noted that Gibson gave police a P.O. box for her address. 

At 10:08 p.m., Gibson complained of having difficulty breathing and police called Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, but the woman refused medical attention.

Once the refusal forms, damage to village property paperwork, and arrest processing was complete, Gibson then allegedly refused numerous times to notify a responsible person to pick her up.

She was placed in a holding cell awaiting arraignment overnight, but finally was released the next day at 8:27 a.m. to a responsible person.
