Hudson Valley Police Officer Steals $15,000: Westchester DA
The Mahopac resident was placed on administrative leave by the Elmsford Police Department.

ELMSFORD, NY — An Elmsford Police Department officer was accused of stealing more than $15,000 that was turned in to the department while he was on duty.
Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah announced Wednesday that Douglas Ramirez, 44, of Mahopac, was arrested and charged with third-degree larceny, a felony, and official misconduct, a misdemeanor.
He was arraigned in Elmsford Village Court and is scheduled to next appear in court Oct. 25.

Prosecutors said, around 3 p.m. July 27, Ramirez, while on duty, accepted a sealed package turned in at the front desk of the Elmsford Police Department.
After opening the packets and discovering the contents, police said, he stole $15,500.

Ramirez was arrested by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office Aug. 29 and placed on administrative leave by the Elmsford Police Department.
