“It is our hope that we can find our next educational leader to assist us in moving the District forward for the start of the 2024-2025 school year,” the Board said.

Gonzales, in a statement on the district’s website, said it was a pleasure and honor to serve the Elmsford students and school families as superintendent.

“Aligning vision for learning with a full community and citizenry can be a fluid process,” he said. “Therefore, after much consideration, I have decided to pursue other leadership opportunities in order to further my work on behalf of students.”

In his brief tenure in Elmsford, Gonzalez oversaw two defeated budget proposals. A contingency budget was eventually passed to cover the 2023-24 school year.

He served as interim superintendent in Elmsford beginning in July 2022 and was appointed superintendent in March.

Gonzalez previously served as principal at Mount Vernon High School.
