Greenburgh Human Rights Advisory Committee Seeking New Members

GREENBURGH, NY — The Greenburgh Human Rights Advisory Committee is looking to expand its membership.

The committee, which was launched in 2015, is an organization of volunteers living in unincorporated and incorporated Greenburgh.

Inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights drafted by the United Nations, the committee’s function is to provide informational and educational public forums to promote human rights advocacy and respond to community concerns about human rights violations in Greenburgh.

Members of the committee are appointed by the Town Board, for the purpose of advancing and protecting human rights by furthering racial, social, ethnic, gender economic, cultural, environmental and political justice in the town

Committee meetings occur once per month via Zoom and are currently held on the third Thursday of each month from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Applicants must:

  • Be over 18 years of age and reside in the town of Greenburgh (Unincorporated Greenburgh, Ardsley, Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, Elmsford, Irvington, Tarrytown)
  • Possess a strong commitment to public service and social justice activism
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, open-mindedness and a capacity for appreciating diverse points of view
  • Be committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion for all residents of Greenburgh
  • Attend at least eight of 12 regular monthly meetings
  • Submit an application to and be approved by the Town Board

High school students are invited to join as non-voting committee members.

The committee is a great opportunity to engage in community-building activities that serve Greenburgh residents and all residents of all backgrounds to unite for a common cause.
