Fundraising for Howson Kids a Huge Success

Oh what a night, was the consensus in Facebook comments this morning after Thursday’s incredible fundraising success for at the W@tercooler.

Tanya Monier’s efforts, with the help of Jenifer Ross, Fiona Tocher Galloway and many others, really paid off for the children of Sleepy Hollow's allegeldy slain mom Theresa Gorski.

Upwards of $10,000 is the latest tally from clothing sales, auction items and raffle tickets at the crowded benefit. Add to that the $1,000+ given directly to the fund's website in the last 10 days and the cut The Tapp will donate for sending the party down to them after the event.

But don't stop there, Monier urged. “Let's keep that number growing."

Spirits were high in the room as dozens of women, and a few men, felt a real sense of community and the empowerment that comes with helping one another.

“It makes me proud to live in this great community,” wrote Jeanne Pedro.

“Hats off to everyone who planned, contributed and supported this most worthy cause,” Gina DeCaprio Vercesi wrote, also praising the incredible cookie baking of Mary Westerfield who provided the irresistible chocolate trip treats.

Monier urges all to “Like” the Wear It, But Don’t Bear It community page as there will be more events to come. She reminded the room that not one but two mothers, of the same neighborhood, whose kids even shared the same bus stop, died that January morning.

“Webber Park and the whole community that I have spoken with want to do something to honor Cathy [Catherine Kadnar], too," Monier said. "She is much loved and missed by all, and her fiancé and her son are clearly on people's minds and in their hearts. Cathy absolutely did and does matter.”

Tina Ryan, of New Broadway, has been talking about potential plans for a carnival and tree planting day to benefit both families. “And she’s a powerhouse,” Monier says.
