Local Acts Share Stage for 'The Last Waltz'

Anthony Giaccio was at his high school reunion in Ardsley when he got invited to participate in this weekend’s The Last Waltz benefit show.

Giaccio now serves as Sleepy Hollow Village Administrator, and does a gig here and there singing – he will sing The Band’s “The Weight” on Sunday night.

Todd Mack, former Ardsley class president, went on to found Music in Common, a non-profit organization whose mission, according to their website, is “to strengthen, empower, and educate communities through the universal language of music.”

This benefit concert, held in the Irvington Town Hall Theater this Sunday will recreate The Band’s classic concert film, The Last Waltz, where a number of invited guests come up and play with main act the Rev Tor Band. For many it's something of a homecoming. 

Rev Tor Band front man Tor Krautter grew up in Edgemont. Krautter's family-owned Sprainbrook Nurseries, recently closed after decades in Scarsdale.

There’s a ton of musical acts involved in what promises to be an exciting, diverse show with local guests Mark Solare of Tramps Like Us and popular jazzman Gill Pariss. Many of the acts are originally from here but now live in the Berkshire, MA area where Mack and Krautter and others met through the music scene there.

Irvington Town Hall is a big place, said Giaccio, though not “as big” as the Tarrytown Music Hall, it's “big enough" and they'd like to fill more seats.

Giaccio said his minor role is more “winging it, so it could be a total surprise,” which certainly is part of the fun.
