Police: Teen Driver Hits Bicyclist, Flees Scene

Tarrytown Police arrested a 17-year-old Sleepy Hollow driver for allegedly fleeing the scene after she hit and injured a bicyclist.

A witness reported to Tarrytown police that a bicyclist had been hit by a car that fled the scene on McKeel Avenue at 8:52 a.m. on Sept. 22. After hitting the bike, the driver then allegedly drove northbound on Warren Avenue towards Wilson Park Drive.

The caller described the car to police as a blue-green color four-door late model Chevrolet.

Police and Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene with Sleepy Hollow police also searching for the suspect's car.

The victim, a 29-year-old Pleasantville woman, was taken to Westchester Medical Center by TVAC for complaints of head and neck pain. Lt. William Herguth also reported her bicycle sustained heavy damages. The car was not found at first but police later arrested the driver, a 17-year-old woman from Sleepy Hollow.

Police took the bicycle to headquarters for safe-keeping and on Sept. 25 returned it to the owner. On this day, they also charged the teen with leaving the scene of a person injury accident.

She was issued a traffic violation and released with a court date.
