Officials Outline School Security Measures

With a recent Facebook threat rattling some parents and students, the Board President and Superintendent again walked people through the safety steps officials are taking.

Superintendent Dr. Howard Smith specified initiatives underway:

  • Working on streamlining systems during school hours first;
  • standardizing lock system throughout schools;
  • sending a letter out to inform parents of lockdown drills that would be occurring, sensitive to children's age groups;
  • then, tightening up protocols for before and after school, with consideration of possible electronic passes to get in and out of locked buildings.
