Senator Ball Honors Armando 'Chick' Galella

Armando 'Chick' Galella, 91, of Sleepy Hollow, is a man often honored for his lifetime achievements, starting back when he received the Bronze Star for his service in the Army during the Japanse attack on Pearl Attack.

Add now to his accolades his recent induction to Senator Greg Ball's district-wide Veterans' Hall of Fame. 

In its second year, a weekend ceremony hosted by the District 40 Senator honored over two dozen veterans from the lower Hudson Valley.

“I am excited to induct this 2nd class of heroes into our Veterans’ Hall of Fame," Ball said. "These men and women have been hand-picked by their communities because they chose a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery; a path that helped shape America as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty. America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of our veterans.”

Armando "Chick" Galella was born in North Tarrytown, New York in January 1921. He served in the United States Army for five years in the Pacific Theater, and was stationed at Hickam Field with the 443rd Heavy Construction Signal Corps in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. Having survived Pearl Harbor he then went on to Tinian on Saipan. Mr. Galella also participated in the Battle of Okinawa. He reached the rank of Battalion Sergeant Major.

During his service, Armando "Chick" Galella earned many awards, including the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.

Armando "Chick" Galella was a Trustee in the Village of North Tarrytown for 10 years. He was the Fire Commissioner for the Village of North Tarrytown, Chaired the Immaculate Conception Bazaar for 20 years, is a Trustee of the Immaculate Conception Church, and was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame.
