There was another series of “crimes of opportunity” -- in the words of Tarrytown Lt. William Herguth – recently when a number of cars were entered and rummaged through overnight with items stolen from many of them.
Starting on May 15 at 7:30 a.m., Tarrytown police began receiving calls of reported break-ins at some point overnight which continued throughout that day. The complaints all come from the same small on the southeastern edge of Tarrytown.
An Embree Street woman reported the loss of her pocketbook (containing numerous bank cards and her cell phone). She had received notice from Chase Bank that her ATM card had been used in the Bronx. For this, police filed a grand larceny case.
A Front Street resident reported the loss of a Garmin GPS device from her car overnight. Two more Front Street callers reported that their cars had been entered with nothing apparently taken. Items were then reported stolen from two more cars on Front Street.
A Lincoln Avenue caller said her car was unlocked in her driveway, was entered overnight but didn’t appear to be missing anything.
A High Street caller said her car was parked inside her unlocked garage and had been entered with (unspecified) items stolen. A second High Street caller reported items had also been stolen from her car.
Cash was reported missing that morning from a car on Walnut Street. Another resident reported unspecified items stolen from their car on Walnut Street. A third Walnut Street caller said her GPS unit had been taken. Finally, a woman on the same street said she found her car doors had been left unlocked with nothing taken.
