'Sleepy Hollow' is Trending Nationally

Sleepy Hollow has always been big nationally – but don’t tell that to Sleepy Hollow, Kansas. I mean the one right here in the Ichabod/Headless Horseman stomping grounds made famous by local literary legend Washington Irving who now quietly resides in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Good thing we got our name changed officially back in 1996, since it’s now time to take this name fame to another level.

In 1999, there was Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow using the name of the village at the forefront of its legendary story (though sadly he didn’t film here).

Now, in the market place, and coming to your television set soon, are a comic book series, two television pilots, and several books, all with Sleepy Hollow figuring prominently in the title.

Very cool.

Says Sleepy Hollow resident and local pop culture afficiando Vishal Brown, “It definitely adds to my love for SH.”

Says Sleepy Hollow Mayor Ken Wray, "it's all good."

Sleepy Hollow: The Comic Book

Last October, just in time for Halloween, a Sleepy Hollow comic book series came out from Zenescope Entertainment.

Digital Spy wrote:

Sleepy Hollow takes place on a campus of the fictional Tarrytown University in upstate New York, where the headless horseman of the original tale returns to exact revenge.

"I'm very excited about taking on this project," writer Dan Wickline told Digital Spy. "If you think about it, Sleepy Hollow is the starting point for a lot of the horror out there today. It was the first story to use the basic premise that we see in slasher films and the blueprint to many of the unstoppable anti-heroes we have today."

He added: "With this series I want to do what Zenescope has become famous for doing, taking classic tales told to children and turning them up to 11. I get to crank up the fright and it should be a hell of a ride."

Sleepy Hollow: Fox TV pilot

Sleepy Hollow, the series, was pitched last year and picked up by Fox TV. Sleepy Hollow, is according to Deadline.com: "a modern–day supernatural thriller based on the legend of Sleepy Hollow. It follows Ichabod Crane as he partners with Sleepy Hollow’s local female sheriff to solve the mysteries of a town ravaged by the battle between good and evil," which some Patch commenters might say sounds like contemporary village life.

Written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, with Len Wiseman as director, actors recently attached to the project include Tom Mison (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) as Ichabod Crane with Sleepy Hollow detective Abbie Archer played by Nicole Beharie. Orlando Jones and Katia Winter co-star.

A captain from the Revolutionary War where he takes off a horseman’s head, Ichabod gets time warped into present day where he is confused by the modern technology but turns out to be a great detective once his enemy, The Headless Horseman, comes back to haunt the town.

Sleepy Hollow: Warner Bros TV series?

According to Deadline, poor CW was also eyeing a Sleepy Hollow series, which started getting talked about at the same time that other Sleepy Hollow show was out network-shopping.

Deadline reported at the time:

It is unclear whether the arrival of the Kurtzman-Orci project to the marketplace would affect the Macmanus-Scharbo one at the CW. In a similar situation, last development season both ABC and the CW developed Beauty And The Beast dramas, both of which went to pilot — with the CW one making it to series.

The project is described by Deadline as, "boundary-pushing horror story for television...a contemporary take on the classic tale The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, in which FBI Agent Ichabod Crane arrives in Sleepy Hollow to investigate a mysterious beheading."

Finally after pausing the project, CW’s Sleepy Hollow apparently landed at Warner Bros TV. More info forthcoming. Certainly they'll have to consider a name change?
