Sleepy Hollow Residents Left Homeless By Fire

The village is collecting gift cards and several fundraising sites have been set up to help the families recover.

SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY — A fire destroyed a home Sunday night in Sleepy Hollow, leaving almost 30 people without homes.

About 100 firefighters from more than a dozen departments fought the blaze that started around 8 p.m. at 305 N. Washington St., News 12 reported. The fire was under control around midnight.

None of the residents were injured. However, one firefighter was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation.

Village officials said they are accepting donations in the form of gift cards only at the village hall in the lockbox at the entrance of the building or the clerk's office on the second floor. They said any kind of gift card would be appreciated and will then be distributed to the families.

Clothing and shoes may be dropped off at the Community Wardrobe in the Jewish Community Center, 371 South Broadway in Tarrytown.
