Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.
A college round-up of several students from Sleepy Hollow, from Dick Miller, with more to come:
This week's spotlight is on Sandro Carissimo of Sleepy Hollow and Iona Prep, whose Vermont basketball team made it through the NCAA quarter finals last season. This time around, the Catamounts are 14-7 thus far, with the forward second high in points, with 212. His most productive game was on Nov. 27th with Harvard, when he had a game high 25 points, the result of 8-11, including 4-5 treys, plus 5-6 at the foul line. In the team's most recent game on January 30th at Hartford, he had 14 points, all coming on lay ups, as the Cats topped their hosts, 49-43. The next game will be at home with the New Hampshire U. Wildcats.

Gillian Berger of Sleepy Hollow, now running track as a freshman for the Penn Quakers, got off to good start as the indoor track season opened on Jan. 19th at Lehigh. So far, her best scores have been 38'65 in the triple jump, 17'11 in the long jump, and 12.34 in the 100 meter dash. At the N.Y. Armory on the Feb. 2nd, she finished 6th in the long jump, going 17:6.25, was 5th in the triple jump, at 36:2.25, and 17th in the 60 meter sprint, clocked at 8:18. The next meet will be on the 8th at the Rider/Lafayette Invitational at the Armory.
