Sports Digest: Berger Wins Triple Jump

Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

From Dick Miller, our weekly college round-up of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown high school grads in action:

At the Philadelphia College Classic at Franklin Field on Mar. 23rd, Gillian Berger of Sleepy Hollow and the University of Pennsylvania, won the women's triple jump with her best distance of 36-05.75. In the women's 100 meter dash her time of 12.22 gave her seventh place in the race.

In the second of two games at home with the Manhattan College Jaspers, Max Bruckner of Hackley and Iona College, started the game and pitched 7.0 innings. He surrendered four runs on seven hits, walked one batter, fanned two, made one wild pitch, hit two batters, and had one assist in the 5-4 squeaker, but did not figure in the decision, as his reliever gave up the winning run to Manhattan in the final frame.

In a double header at the College of New Jersey on Mar. 23rd, Jamie Bucci of Sleepy Hollow and Cortland State and her Cortland State Red Dragons split their softball double header. They lost the opener, 3-0, and then copped the nightcap, 13-7. In game one, she connected for a pinch hit single, while in the second, when she was the designated player and pinch runner, she went one for three at the plate and scored one run.

At Santa Clara University on Mar. 19th, Santo Carissimo of the University of Vermont's basketball team, scored a team high of fourteen points in a 77-67 loss to the Broncos. The Catamounts' season ended with a record of 22-12.

Ali Kaminetsky of Hackley and Lehigh's women's tennis team, lost her singles match to guests St. Joseph's University on Mar. 19th, 6-3,6,0. Then she and her doubles partner prevailed in their match, 8-3. St. Joseph's won the day, 7-2. On Mar. 23rd at West Point, the Mountain Hawks played Holy Cross and and blanked the Crusaders, 7-0. She won her singles match, 6-0,6,0, and then she and her partner copped their doubles match, 8-1. On Mar. 24th, in a match with hosts Army, the Lady Black Knights blanked them, 7-0, with Ali dropping her singles match, 6-2,6-1, and then the doubles match, 8-1. The record is now three and eleven.

In the first of two games at The College of New Jersey on Mar. 23rd, Conor McDermott of Hackley and Muhlenberg caught the game. He went hitless, fanned twice, and made four putouts in the 12-3 loss. The record is 10-7.
