Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

Here's Dick Miller's weekly round-up of Sleepy Hollow High grads excelling in their college sports teams:

At the Raleigh Relays track meet held at North Carolina State University on Mar. 29th and 30th, Gillian Berger of Sleepy Hollow and the University of Pennsylvania, finished fifth in the long jump (at 5.09 meters) and fifth in the triple jump (at 11.10 meters). Following a long tradition, the Quakers traveled to Ithaca on Apr. 6th, where both they and the Big Red of Cornell competed against track and field athletes from Oxford and Cambridge Universities in England. In the women's long jump, Berger finished third with her distance of 18:2'5". In the triple jump she placed fourth at 35:10"75. In 2015, they will once again clash in the United Kingdom.

Max Bruckner of Sleepy Hollow and Iona College, pitched against hosts Niagara University on Apr. 6th. He gave up four runs in four innings and was charged with the loss in the 4-3 contest. The Gael's record is currently 3-26/0-8.

Jamie Bucci of Sleepy Hollow and Cortland State patrolled right field for her Red Dragons in a double win over guests Fredonia on Apr. 5th. In the opening 3-1 game, she batted one for three and had one putout. In the 5-4 second game, she had one hit, scored a run, and had one putout. Visiting Buffalo State on Apr. 6th, in the sweep of the double bill, 3-1 and 6-5, she had one hit and scored a run. In the second, she scored a run, walked twice, had one putout and one assisst, and sacrificed a runner home with what eventually proved to be the game winning score. The record is 10-10/4-2.

At the Duke University Invitational Track meet on Apr. 5th and 6th, Rob Cacace of Hackley and Holy Cross College, finished 15th of 24 competitors in the men's Javelin throw, with a toss of 44.14 meters. It was a non-scoring meet.

Hosting Monmouth University on Apr. 2nd, the University of Pennsvylvania softball team dropped both ends of a double header, 2-1 and 1-1. Second sacker Samantha Erosa of Hackley had a double and three putouts in the opening game, but didn't play in the second. In a twin bill at Yale on Apr. 5th, in the opener 7-0 win, she had one hit and scored a run. In the 9-0 blanking of the Elis, she had one run batted in and one sacrifice fly. At Brown on Apr. 6th, the Quakers topped the Bears, 7-1. She had one hit, two runs knocked across, walked once, and had two putouts and three assists in the infield in the opener. In game number two, a 6-4 triumph, she batted three for five, scored a run, had a run batted in, and made two putouts and three assists. At the end of the week, Erosa's batting average stood at .338 and the team's record was 17-13/7-1.

In the opening rowing regatta for Will Johnson of Hackley and Dartmouth College, his Varsity Four won their race, in 7:08.7, topping hosts Holy Cross, Columbia, and M.I.T. The race was held in Worcester, MA. on Apr. 6th. The other four crew members inclue Coxswain Nick Shallow of Rutland, Vt., Stroke Jake Wojnas of Toronto, Rahul Raisa, of Mombasa, India, and Jamie Billings of Lincoln, Mass.

The Lehigh Unversity Mountain Hawks' women's tennis team topped guests Monmouth University on Apr. 2nd, 6-1, as Ali Kaminetsky of Hackley won a hard fought singles match, 5-7, 6-2, and 12-10. She and her doubles partner took their match, 8-2. At Colgate University on Apr. 7th, they bowed to the Red Raiders, 5-2, as she dropped her singles match, 6-3,6-0. Then she and her partner lost a hard contested doubles match, 9-8(7-5). The record is 4-11/1-2.

In a high scoring baseball game on Apr. 3rd, Muhlenburg won over guests Keuka, 22-11. Colon McDermott of Hackley, entered the fray in the top of the fifth inning as a pinch hitter, and then took over the catching chores, making four putouts. With McDaniel as the guests in a double header on Apr. 6th, he caught the first eight innings of the second game and got hit by a pitch. The Mules dropped both ends of the twin bill, 2-1 and 3-0, with the record now 14-11/2-4.

In the women's Long Jump at the Colonial Relays, held at The College of Willliamsburg on Apr. 5th, Genvieve Ruppel of Sleepy Hollow and St. Joseph's University, tied for seventeenth place with a distance of 17-00.75. St. Joseph's finished 18th in the meet, with a total of 20 points.

Austin Siegel of Sleepy Hollow is a freshman netter on the Louisville Universityl men's tennis team. In a singles match against Texas Tech University on Mar. 30th, he lost to his foe, 6-1,6-2.
