Tarrytown Cops: Transformer and Wire Fires, Mysterious Phelps Van
A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Tarrytown.

Transformer Fire
On Sept. 12 at 7:21 p.m., Tarrytown police received multiple calls from residents around Benedict Avenue reporting a transformer fire at Benedict near Martling Avenue.
The fire department was dispatched.
Drug Arrests
The Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol Task Force made an arrest at Depot Plaza on Sept. 12 at 7:54 p.m. when they found a person with cocaine in their possession.
The defendant, 28, from Peekskill, was taken to Westchester County Jail on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth and third degrees.
By law, Lt. William Herguth said that charge entails a quantity of 50 MG or more.

An officer on Sept. 14 at 10:48 a.m. reported another criminal possession of a controlled substance arrest on Leroy Avenue.
The defendant, age not released by police, of Mt. Kisco, was brought to headquarters and released to his father with a return court date. The pills found on him, "a small amount without a prescription," said Herguth, were placed into evidence.
Severed Ear
County Fire requested ambulance support for a man who would be arriving by small aluminum boat into the Tarrytown marina with a severed ear.
On Sept. 13 at 3:09 p.m., Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the man, age 56, from North Carolina, to Westchester County Medical Center.
Lt. Herguth did not know the circumstances of what happened to the man's ear.
Wires Down and on Fire
Several 911 callers reported to police on Sept. 16 at 1:58 p.m. that wires were down and on fire on Martling Avenue.
Police and fire department volunteers, with Con Edison already on the scene, shut down Martling Avenue in the area. By 2:31 p.m. the roadway was reopened as Con Ed had secured the wire and removed it from the street.
Mississippi Credit Card on the Loose
A Mississippi resident contacted Tarrytown police to report on Sept. 16 that an unknown person had made purchases with their credit card at our CVS and Walgreens stores.
Police advised him to contact his own department to file a report.
Car Accident, Chest Pains
A driver hit a parked car on Union Avenue on Sept. 18 at 7:33 a.m. The driver complained of chest pain and was taken by Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Phelps Memorial Hospital emergency room.
Mysterious Phelps Van
An officer reported coming across a Phelps Memorial Hospital van parked on Main Street in front of the Cherry Door on Sept. 19 at 3:05 a.m. with its doors open and the keys in the ignition along with the keys to the store.
Police checked the inside of the store and everything appeared to be in order. They contacted Phelps security and a supervisor there would send a security guard to the scene. The guard secured the keys and would follow up with administration. Police did not receive any report of any items stolen.
Pedestrian Struck
A caller reported to police on Sept. 19 that he had been hit by a car earlier that morning while crossing White Plains Road.
He said he had been injured when he was crossing the street in a crosswalk and a car turning eastbound off the Thruway exit struck him. Police went to investigate and filed out an accident report.
The man, aged 29, from Wappingers Falls, told police he sought his own treatment for pain in his hip and leg.
