Tarrytown Cops: Unlicensed Cabbie Strikes Cars; Mom Sees Bad Things
A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Tarrytown.
Very Bad Things
A mother getting her son on the bus on Sept. 19 saw something she wished she hadn't. She later told Tarrytown police that she observed a car with PA license plates parked in the Prospect Avenue lot with a couple in it smoking crack and having sex.
She called police though that afternoon saying she had planned to call police sooner and forgot.
Unlicensed Taxi Strikes Cars
A caller reported to Tarrytown police on Sept. 21 that a taxi had struck two parked cars on Central Avenue.
At 7:03 p.m. officers went to the scene and requested a tow truck for the taxi, whose driver, 47, of Tarrytown, was found to have a suspended license. He was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third and taken to headquarters where he was released with a court date.
Stolen Ring
A Main Street business owner reported jewelry was missing from their store on Sept. 22 at 3:12 p.m. They believed that the three people who were just there may have been the culprits.
Officers found the three walking on Main Street and talked to them and the store owner. The owner said they hadn't actually witnessed any larceny take place. Missing was a $98 gold ring, police said.
Each of the three denied any involvement and went on their way.
Police filed a case for petty larceny that detective division would further investigation.
Defecated on Childcare Center, Urine on Copy Machine
On Sept. 23, a caller reported to police that an unknown person had defecated on the playground equipment and the grassy area of the Mascia daycare center. The area had already been cleaned and they just asked that the incident be noted in the record.
In another incident involving mysterious bodily emissions, an office manager at an office on White Plains Road reported to police that an unknown person had left a small cup of an unknown substance, believed to be urine, on top of a photocopy machine.
The cup was found on Monday, Sept. 23 at the start of the work day. The office manager told police there were no ongoing disputes within the office and no reason to suspect former employees but did say that a similar cup was found sometime in 2012.
The detective division would follow up with the building management.
Accident in the Driveway of the JCC
Anyone who regularly goes to the Jewish Community Center knows it can be a challenge to get in and out of that driveway.
A driver reported a minor accident at the center's driveway on Sept. 23 at 2:27 p.m. At the scene, one driver told police she was stopped at the end of the driveway when the second car pulled in and struck her car.
The second driver said that when she pulled in the other car was pulled too far over, causing her to strike it.
The first car sustained rear driver side damage, while the second car had front driver side damage.
Both parties exchanged information.
