Tarrytown OKs $86.8 Million Capital Project
In a letter to the community, the Board of Education thanked all of the voters who came to the polls.

TARRYTOWN, NY — Voters in the Tarrytown school district overwhelmingly approved an $86.8 million capital project Tuesday.
The unofficial vote tally posted on the district’s website was 972 yes votes to 205 no votes.

“With your support, the Capital Bond Project was approved,” the letter said. “We can now move forward with the Facilities Plan, which will bring much-needed updates to the buildings where our students learn and grow.”
The board said the project will address the need for infrastructure enhancements throughout the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns.

“Students will greatly benefit from these improvements and will be able to learn in an optimal academic setting,” the board members said. “All of this is thanks to you.”
With the public’s approval, funds totaling $92.8 million can now be used to handle infrastructure enhancements in each school.
Officials said about $6 million will come from district reserves and about 53.6 percent of total project cost is projected to be funded by state aid.
According to district officials, construction will take place over three years, tentatively beginning in 2025.
The improvements include:
W.L. Morse School
- Four-story, six-classroom building addition
- Existing classrooms enlarged to meet state standards
- New ceilings, lighting and flooring
- Security upgrades
- New heating, ventilation and AC systems
Tappan Hill School
- Roof repair
- Replacement of original windows, floors, ceilings and lighting
Washington Irving Intermediate School
- Four-story, 11-classroom building addition
- New ceilings, lighting and flooring
- Security upgrades
- New heating, ventilation and AC systems
- Synthetic turf and bleacher replacement
John Paulding School
- Kindergarten would move to Tappan Hill with Paulding becoming pre-K only
- Removal of modulars
- Infrastructure improvements
