3 Teens Arrested in Connection with Robbery on SBU Campus

A Stony Brook University police investigation into a robbery and an attempted robbery last week on campus has resulted in three arrests, the university announced Friday.

Three 16-year-olds – two from East Setauket and one from Setauket, each of whom have no affiliation with the university – were arrested by university police, according to police chief Robert Lenahan.

"This matter will now be pursued in the Suffolk County Criminal Courts," Lenahan said in a statement.

Stony Brook asked for help in identifying the individuals responsible for robbing one student of his phone and money and for attempting to rob a group of three students as well in a separate incident. Following those reports, campus police stepped up patrols.

Two of the teens were charged with second-degree robbery, a violent felony, and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor. The third teen was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
