Crews have begun taking down J&R's Steakhouse in Stony Brook, which had been closed since Hurricane Sandy hit last year.
A spokesman for Stony Brook Medicine told Patch in July that the building would be razed to make more parking available to serve the hospital's new perioperative center, which is current being built in the rear of the Coventry Commons shopping center.
The demolition of J&R's comes a few weeks after the former bank building adjacent to the restaurant was torn down for the same purpose.
Patch previously reported that the restaurant sustained extensive roof damage during Sandy, which happened to coincide roughly with the expiration of its lease.
