  1. Duchenne Care Center opens in Stony Brook. The facility is the first certified center on Long Island to care for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This genetic condition weakens the bones and heart and can lead to cardiac and respiratory complications. (News 12 Hudson Valley)

  3. Nearby News: A Lake Grove man has been arrested for approaching an 11-year-old-child while she was walking home from Selden Middle School. According to the police, the 28-year-old man made sexual comments while following her. Luckily, she managed to escape, but the suspect crashed into a pole when he tried to flee from the scene.   4. Stony Brook student musicians will perform for cancer care patients in the hospital every Wednesday. The project aims to create a relaxing and entertaining environment for patients undergoing treatments. (Patch)

  • Brookhaven Town will spread animal adoption awareness throughout the year. The town discussed a new plan in a board meeting to help pets to find their forever homes. Currently, 81 cats and 70 dogs live in the shelter, waiting for adoption. (Patch)
  • "The Jazz Loft continues to bring live jazz music to Madiran Wine Bar in East Setauket in 2023, with the first show on January 12 and every second Thursday of the month! Live music will be from 7 to 9 p.m." (Three Village Patch)
  • Stony Brook FoodLab is offering small-scale farming programs in 2023! Classes will be at the Stony Brook Southampton campus every Tuesday starting on Jan. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. For those who can't make it in person, classes are available via Zoom!
