- The first baby born at Stony Brook Hospital in 2023 is a girl! A couple from Nesconset welcomed their daughter at 12:10 a.m. on New Year's Day. Dr. Chris Raju and Nurse Erin Abernathy delivered the baby. (Patch)
- The Cornell Cooperative Extension will teach a free Winter Seed Sowing class at Emma Clark Library. This online event is for those who want to learn how to start seeds outside of the house during the winter! Click here to register. (Three Village Patch)
- TBR News Media has nominated Patricia Poggi as 2022 Person of the Year for her incredible charitable work. Poggi created the EJ’s PJs pajama drive twelve years ago. - Emma Clark Library is to host the first drop-in Crafternoon of 2023 on Saturday, Jan. 7. Kiddos aged 3- 12 years old are welcome to stop by between 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (Mommy Poppins)

- Port Jefferson kicks off the new year with the Winter Ice Festival. The free community event is set for Jan. 28-29 from 11 a.m. to p.m. on both days. Ice sculptures by Rich Daly of Ice Memories Inc. will be displayed. You might like to know this is a free event. (Port Jeff CofC)
