Motorcyclist Dead, Pedestrian Seriously Hurt In 2 Separate Crashes On Long Island: Police

They happened around 12 hours apart over Saturday and Sunday, Suffolk police say.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A motorcyclist was killed and a pedestrian seriously hurt in a hit-and-run in two separate crashes in Suffolk within around 12 hours, Suffolk police said.

Airton Santos-Alexandre was operating a 2015 Suzuki GSX-R750 on Southbound Nicolls Road in Stony Brook, when he lost control, and struck a guardrail on the right shoulder at around 11:10 a.m., and the impact ejected him off the bike, according to police.

Santos-Alexandre, 26, of Medford, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check, according to police.

In the second crash, a pedestrian was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run crash in Port Jefferson Station on Saturday night, police said.

The 54-year-old, who has no known last address, was crossing the roadway from west to east in front of 315 Route 112 when he was struck by a northbound vehicle at around 11:45 p.m., and the vehicle was driven from the scene in a northbound direction, according to police.

The person was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

It was a deadly weekend on Long Island's roads.

A person was struck and killed on Sunrise Highway on Saturday.

Another person died after their car was struck by a Long Island Rail Road train in East Farmingdale on Friday.
