Happy National Poetry Month! Emma Clark Library has 3 programs coming up for both Adults & Teens to inspire, challenge, and connect through poetry. These are open to all Suffolk County residents, so be sure to share with your friends & family:

  • Saturday, April 5, 2:00 – 3:00pm: Journeying On: A Poetry Reading with Ramya Ramana (Adults & Teens). Author and poet, Ramya Ramana will read poems that span across a decade. Through both older and newer pieces, poems of grief, poems of love, poems of justice and poems of faith, Ramana will invite us into the journey of being formed and thus, transformed. The reading will end with a Q&A. Click here to register now. PLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
  • Tuesday, April 8, 7:00 – 8:30pm: Poems of Arrival: Poetry Workshop with Ramya Ramana (Adults). Join author and poet Ramya Ramana for this guided workshop, exploring the question: How do we arrive, with language, towards a place of safety, surrender; a home? Through this generative writing prompt, we will investigate themes of returning and arrival. We will read and discuss poets like Mary Oliver, Wendell Berry and others. This will be a safe space for writers of all levels to engage and leave with a poem-home of their very own. Click here to register.
  • Friday, April 25, 6:00 - 7:30pm: Poetry Open Mic Night with Suffolk County Poet Laureate Sarah Goodman (Teens in Grades 7 - 12). Celebrate National Poetry Month by joining our Suffolk County Poet Laureate Sarah Goodman for a Poetry Open Mic Night designed specifically for teens! Participants may bring and read original poems. After each reading an opportunity will be given for others to provide at least one positive statement and at most one positive critique/recommendation, designed to help people build their confidence and evaluate their work for future writing. Snacks will be provided. Click here to register now.
