STONY BROOK, NY — The first baby of the new year, Liam Ramirez-Enriquez, was welcomed at 8:23 a.m. at Stony Brook University Hospital by parents Mariela Enriquez Flores and Jose Ramirez, officials said.

The baby boy, who weighs 6 lbs, 15 ounces, was delivered by doctors Julia Xavier and Dana Masand, Diana Calero-Kunda, as well as nurse Meaghan Maggio.

The parents, who live in Riverhead, described the special moment in a statement released by the hospital: “The purest love has just arrived with your little heartbeat Liam.”
