Setauket's West Meadow Beach Closed To Swimming Due To Bacteria

Suffolk County Department of Health issued an advisory Wednesday evening; bathing at the beach is closed until further notice.

SETAUKET, NY — West Meadow Beach in Setauket is closed for swimming due to excess bacteria levels, Suffolk County says. The Department of Health services issued an advisory on Wednesday evening that bacteria levels were elevated at the Long Island Sound Brookhaven Town beach.

The beach is closed for bathing until further notice. To find the latest beach closure information, the Department of Health maintains an updated map here.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott, "bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat."
